Metformin Drug

Metformin is a diabetes drug that you take by mouth to help control your blood sugar levels.

Metaformin is sold under the brand names Fortamet, Glucophage, Glucophage XR, Glumetza, and Riomet.

Metformin is only for people with type 2 diabetes. Although it can sometimes be used in combination with insulin, it is not for those with type 1 diabetes.

It’s also not for people with liver or kidney disease or a history of heart disease, and a small number of people have developed a life-threatening condition called lactic acidosis while taking Metformin.

As with any medication, don’t take more than the prescribed dose, or for longer than your doctor recommends. And if you notice any side effects, call your doctor immediately.
